Earlier this week I made my first ever under age 2 court gown for a little girl. The "Kaitlyn" is our very first design for a baby! It includes the dress (with sleeves and shoulder rolls) and a chemise. Our design encompasses two sizes in one gown as well as the chemise. 0-6 & 6-9mo

The skirt and bodice are attached and lace under each arm to allow for enough growth (hopefully) between the ages. The skirt has 2.5" built in at the hem.
The bodice is completely lined in lightweight fabric, ie silk or cotton, to allow for breathing with no boning. Each lacing hole is and couched for strength. Stuffed shoulder rolls adorn each shoulder and two trims (or ribbons) decorate the center of each roll.
The sleeves are fully lined and open, with handmade cloth buttons and floss loops, half way up to allow for venting on hot days. They are attached at intervals at the armpit to allow for the chemise to be pulled through decoratively, if desired. Ribbon bands alternate with a trim to create visual appeal and are capped with a ribbon twist pattern near the bicep. The sleeves have 2.5" built in at the wrist cuff for growth.
The chemise has a drawstring that adjusts at the neck and wrists for the growth of the child. It opens partly down the chest and falls to just about the ankle.
